man, 36-years-old, hypertension and weight loss. Sometimes the patient suffers
from about 15 minutes lasting periods of fear, headache, high BP, palpitation
and tremor.
INFO/WWW:
A cause of hypertension may be a catecholamines producing tumor of the adrenal
gland - phaeochromocytoma.
Nearly all phaeochromocytomas develop from the adrenal medulla - only a few
arise from the sympathetic chain. Phaeochromocytomas are usually unilateral
(90%). They are associated with neurofibromatosis and medullary thyroid carcinoma
or MEN II (multiple endocrine neoplasia II syndrome) or v. Hippel-Lndau-syndrome.
A phaeochromocytoma is usually vasular.
